‘People-ready business’ or How to market unstable software

It seems that Microsoft’s biggest critics, bloggers, are now being asked to write what ‘People-ready business’ means to them as a way to bolster the phrase and Microsoft’s association with business. This strikes me as a flailing attempt to garner support in people’s minds to think of Microsoft as a business software company. Yes, they…

setAttribute, a gallery, IE, and hours of my life wasted

One of my favorite books is Dom Scripting by Jeremy Keith. I’ve used his concepts for a gallery I designed for my dad’s portfolio. Well in the process of making updates to that site I ran into a problem. I wanted to display wider images than normal for one of the pages, to not have…

    The Empire Strikes Back

Hello again and welcome to the Microsoft show, the greatest show on earth. Where the marketing department seems to have a bigger budget than the developers. It seems now that they aren’t pleased that so many people are waiting until the big bugs are worked out before upgrading to Vista. They are now about to…

    When it rains it pours

I’ve been stacked up lately with contract work. It’s nice to have the extra, but man some nights I would like to just like to kick back. Oh well, no rest for the wicked. Beyond the training development that I am working on at HP as my day job, and the work I just completed…

    Cracked Titanium Frame

It’s officially over. I finally cracked my Performance Titanium frame after all these years. I put a lot of miles on it and it was a great frame while it lasted. The weld on the drive side seat stay, right behind the seat clamp cracked, and the crack was spreading across the tube. Oh well.…

    Damn the Standards…Full speed ahead!

I was browsing through some sports coverage and ran across this link. It’s an amazing (read: bad) site that ignores all the standard rules of engagement in web design and development.

I know some people are reading my blog…but no one but the spammers are making comments. I guess I’m not controversial enough. Stay tuned.

  • Click to Activate Flash Still an Issue?

It’s amazing to me that sites that rely on Flash for their main navigation have not taken the steps to eliminate the “Click to activate and use this control” messages from their sites. If you haven’t seen this message before you must be avoiding flash sites. To recap: Eolas has a patent dispute with Microsoft,…

  • Google Analytics Beta

I was just visiting Google Analytics and noticed a fresh new interface. The graphs are bolder, and the data seems to be better organized. All good news for everyone using this free Google service. Oh, pay no attention to the dismal traffic that my pitiful excuse for a web site is currently drawing…unless you want…

  • Product Design Flaws

It is with a note of sadness that I must report that my perfectly operating Suzuki SV650S on it’s approach to four years of faithful service has started to show signs of weakness. Not mechanical failures per say, but design failures. While they are very reliable motorcycles there are three specific flaws that I have…
