Bikely.com

I just found this fantastic mash up site for cyclists called Bikely.com. You can map routes and share them with other riders.

Here is a map of the route I ride to work:

Push start a motorcycle

It’s funny how life presents you with obstacles that force you to overcome them. Here’s the curve ball thrown at me a few weeks ago. Through some engineering genious Suzuki decided to put one moe detent on the ignition switch on the SV650s, a park setting. Why whould you ever want to park your bike with the fork locked, and the parking lights on. Everyone knows that modern sportbikes have the absolute minimum sized battery to help trim weight off, leaving a battery with just enough juice to start the bike a few times from a cold engine. So as you might have guessed I accidently went into work with the bike in park mode, leaving my lights on all day. The work day ends, I go out…CRAP! I can see the dim glow of my tailights as I walk towards my SV. Continue Reading »

Why Vista Sucks

I could begin by sighting dozens of quotes from forums, but that would be too easy, and possibly miss the point. Instead I propose that the problem with Vista has less to do with the installation nightmares, lack of drivers, constant annoyances posing as security, and ridiculous hardware requirements just to run the base OS.

The problem with Vista is simple, why bother? Continue Reading »

SEO and Google

This article started off as a simple premise, I would use the experience I had gained while at InsWeb to write an article describing the ins and outs of trying to push a site to the top of Google’s organic search engine rankings. This of course was to be an example based on pushing the InsWeb site to the top of the charts, but now that I no longer work there this presents a bit of a challenge. So I switched angles and thought, why not work towards pushing my own site to the top of the rankings, or at least as far as I could… So here goes. Continue Reading »

<div> dividers…

While migrating a site over to XHTML and CSS I discovered a bug in Internet Explorer 6. I was surprised that I hadn’t seen this one documented before, so I thought I’d write something up. Instead of using horizontal rules <hr> I like to create divs with a background color and a small height instead, browser support for styling <hr> is spotty at best, and using a div you can add additional properties to control the width and height, or add a background image.

Jumping onto the bandwagon…

I’ve finally succumbed to peer pressure…all those billboards and commercials finally got to me. Not really, but I decided to move to a blog format because it should be easier to write and publish my articles.

Not only have I moved to a new format for my writing…I moved my whole site! I’m now on HostMonster.com (which I discovered is the same company as BlueHost.com). So I said goodbye to Bizland.com (too many problems to list). So There’s this new blog thing, I’m adding a gallery for my photographs, and the other section will by my usual portfolio stuff, that I will be reorganinzing in the near future. So in the next few days I’ll migrate my writings to my blog from the existing site. This should be fun.
